Running for Days

A few years ago, I ran in a 200-mile race with a team of 11—starting in Madison, Wisconsin, and finishing in Chicago, Illinois. The second of my three individual runs was at night, in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately, my foot found a hole in the road, which resulted in a badly-sprained ankle.

If I were to stop and ask for help from my team, our entire team would have been disqualified. Not wanting to let my team down as we all had trained and traveled far to accomplish this goal, I decided to push through the pain and continue my run as well as my third leg the next morning.

As much as I wanted to quit, I couldn’t. I was part of a team, and they were depending on me. I value teamwork and commitment, which is why I enjoy doing what I do. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work amongst a team that is committed to helping and serving others.
